Harare is located on a high plateau in the northeast of Zimbabwe, with an altitude of 1472 meters. It is the capital and largest city of Zimbabwe. The name “Harare” means “city that never sleeps”, which is derived from the name of a chief who remained vigilant, never sleeping, and had a sharp and cunning spirit.
Harare is a European-style modern city with beautiful surroundings, neat layout, numerous parks and green spaces, pleasant climate, lush vegetation all year round, cool and pleasant like spring, and enjoyable seasons with flowers blooming. The streets in the city intersect like a grid, forming numerous “well” shapes. The wide and clean tree-lined avenues are peaceful and quiet, providing vast space for weekend outings and relaxation with numerous parks and gardens. The central-southern part of the city is the commercial area, while the northern and eastern parts are high-end residential areas with villas surrounded by hedges, gardens, lawns, swimming pools, luxurious clubs, and golf courses for entertainment. The southwestern Harare area has low houses and narrow streets, designated as the living area for black people by the former colonizers.
In Harare, there is the Victoria Museum, which houses early indigenous paintings and precious artifacts excavated from the “Great Zimbabwe Ruins”. Additionally, there are a cathedral, university, Rufaro Stadium, art galleries, and other attractions.
