The Al Zubarah Archaeological Site is located in the northern region of Madinat ash Shamal in the northwestern part of Qatar, 105 kilometers away from the capital city of Doha. This is a world-renowned archaeological site, which was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013.

Al Zubarah was a bustling coastal pearl diving and trading port in the late 18th to early 19th century, being the largest and best-preserved commercial town in the Persian Gulf during that period. Unfortunately, this thriving town was destroyed in 1811 and completely abandoned in the early 20th century. The Al Zubarah Archaeological Site is the richest archaeological site in Qatar, covering an area of up to 400 hectares. It consists of outer walls, inner walls, partition walls, fortresses, palaces, markets, mosques, streets, and courtyards, providing important evidence for understanding the lives of the local inhabitants in the past. It is also the best place to explore the social and economic history of Al Zubarah before the discovery of oil and natural gas in the 20th century, attracting archaeologists from around the world.
