Östersund is located in central Sweden, on the eastern shore of Lake Storsjön, the fifth largest lake in Sweden, facing Frösön Island, and is the capital of Jämtland County. This city, the only city in Jämtland County, is an important cultural and economic center, as well as the 24th most populous city in Sweden and the 46th most populous city in Scandinavia.

It boasts modern cross-country skiing sports facilities and ski trails, and has hosted several world championships in various sports including biathlon, speed skating, and ski orienteering. The Jamtli Museum consists of an outdoor museum and an indoor museum, with the outdoor museum mainly exhibiting historical Swedish buildings, while the indoor museum houses a large collection of exquisite tapestries representing different cultures and traditions. Frösö Zoo is one of the largest zoos in Sweden breeding foreign animals, home to over 700 species including Siberian tigers, lions, wolves, and monkeys.
Östersund has numerous cafes, bars, and clubs. One of its most distinctive features is its long-standing coffee house tradition, where savoring coffee is an essential cultural experience for every visitor. It’s said that the meat-filled sandwich cake was born in a coffee house.
