Novi Pazar is located in a valley in the southwestern part of Serbia, in the Raška District. It is the cultural center of the Bosniak community in Serbia and the largest city in the Sandžak region. The city serves as the main economic and cultural hub of the Sandžak region, with rivers like the Raška River flowing through it, making it a beautiful and charming city.
Novi Pazar boasts numerous historical landmarks. The nearby Serbian Orthodox monasteries of Sopoćani, dating back to the medieval Serbian Kingdom under Stefan Nemanja I in 1979, and Stari Ras with its name changed to Stari Ras and Sopoćani, were listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Additionally, the 9th-century Church of St. Peter is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Djurdjevi Stupovi monastery, built in the 12th century and once in ruins for a long period, has been restored since the late 20th century. Novi Pazar is also home to the largest mosque in the Balkan Peninsula, built in the 16th century. Furthermore, the city features Ottoman era architectural wonders such as the 17th-century caravanserai, the 15th-century Turkish bath, and the Ottoman-era city walls.
